A line of Second World War defences are visible as structures on aerial photographs of the 1940s along the coast adjacent to the line of the High Street, Swanage. The defences continue to the north (see MDO29020). They consist of barbed wire entanglements, possibly beach scaffolding. (1) The defences were arranged in a line along the front of the beach to impede landing craft and were removed immediately after the war. This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
