Summary

A series of rubbish pits excavated behind the Poole High Street frontage, contained a large assemblage of both coarseware and fineware pottery of seventeenth and eighteenth century date, together with a range of other finds including fabrics highly suggestive of a tailor's workshop.

Full Description

A series of rubbish pits, some stone lined, were excavated behind the High Street frontage on the Old Orchard Car park site by Poole Museum in 1973. These pits contained a large assemblage of coarseware and fineware pottery of seventeenth and eighteenth century date, together with a range of other finds. Amongst these was a collection of woollen, silk and other fabrics, highly suggestive of a flourishing tailor's workshop. (1)
