Description

Poole Museum carried out excavations on the site of a car park south of the High Street in advance of redevelopment between April and November 1973. An area pf 1650 square metres was excavated and a further 575 square metres were observed. In 1975, a further 185 square metres closer to the street frontage was excavated. These rescue excavations produced evidence for continuous occupation of the site from the 13th century to the 20th century, with a particularly large assemblage of 17th and 18th century finds recovered from pits to the rear of the frontage.
