Summary

Medieval strip lynchets and field banks visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947. Part of the medieval open field system around Up Cerne. The features are visible as sections of curvilinear banks on a 1947 aerial photograph and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.

Full Description

Centred at ST 66140262. An area of low, parallel strip lynchets and field banks, under crops, but clearly visible on air photographs. <2>

Lynchets and field banks have been ploughed out. Field under pasture on a west-facing slope. <3>

The features are visible as sections of curvilinear banks on a 1947 aerial photograph and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project. <1, 5>
