Summary

A small early Roman ditch, aligned NNW-SSE, was found during a watching brief at 49 Blandford Road, Hamworthy. It contained some 1st century AD Roman pottery.

Full Description

A ditch (ditch 107), oriented roughly NNW-SSE, was found during a watching brief carried out by Terrain Archaeology to the rear of 49 Blandford Road, Hamworthy, in 2004. The ditch was about 1.5 m wide and 0.6 m deep and was filled with yellowish brown clayey sand. It contained a small quantity of 1st century AD Roman pottery and some briquetage. The ditch was on the same alignment as the large early Roman ditches found nearby at Shapwick Road.
