Summary

One of nine round barrows making up the Southover Heath Group. Bowl, with very faint traces of a ditch. 62ft. in diam and 6ft. high (RCHM). The barrow is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010.

Full Description

Five tree or fern-covered round barrows on Southover Heath with no traces of ditch and mainly free from mutilation. 'B' - Bowl barrow, 19.0m diameter and 1.6m high. <1>

'B' - (11) - SY 77819298. Bowl barrowm, 62ft diameter and 6ft high with very faint traces of a ditch. Grinsell refers to this barrow as 20 paces diameter x 5ft high. <2> <4>

"SY 779929 Group of four round barrows on Sothover Heath Scheduled". <5>

'B' SY 77799298, as described but no visible traces of a ditch. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <6>

The barrow referred to above is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010 <7>. It is sub-circular in shape and measures 14 m in diameter. The barrow is close to another scheduled in the same group (see MDO2780). This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
