Summary

One of nine round barrows which make up the Southover Heath Group. It is covered with trees and undergrowth. An apparent berm on the N. and E. is probably the remains of a later tree ring. 50ft. in diam and 8ft. high. The barrow is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010.

Full Description

Five tree or fern-covered round barrows on Southover Heath with no traces of ditch and mainly free from mutilation. 'A' - Bowl barrow, 17.0m diameter and 1.7m high has been slightly mutilated in the southern quadrant by a track. <1>

'A' - (10) - SY 77779302. Bowl barrow, 50ft diameter and 8ft high, covered with trees and undergrowth. An apparent berm on the north and east is probably the remains of alater tree-ring. Grinsell refers to this barrow as 18 paces diameter x 6 ft high. <2> <4>

One of nine round barrows which make up the Southover Heath Group. It is covered with trees and undergrowth. An apparent berm on the N. and E. is probably the remains of a later tree ring.

The barrow is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010 <7>. It is sub-circular in shape and measures 17 m in diameter. The barrow is close to another scheduled in the same group (see MDO2781). This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
