Summary

A bowl barrow in woodland. In 1952 this monument was described as around 42 feet in diameter with a mound about 4½ feet high. It has been damaged in the centre, probably by antiquarian investigation. The feature is visible as an earthwork on Environment Agency lidar imagery and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.

A bowl barrow. Diameter 16 paces, height 6 feet. Hollow centre. (2)

Similar information. (3)

A tree covered bowl barrow with a central hollow. Diameter 14 metres, height 1.8 metres. No ditch.

The feature is visible as an earthwork on Environment Agency lidar imagery, where it presents as a 15.5m in diameter mound with a central hollow in its top. There is the suggestion of a narrow outer ditch. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project. <8>

‘(14) BOWL BARROW, in Coronation Plantation on the N. edge of the parish, 350 yards N.E. of Jackman’s Cross, is 42 ft. in diam. and 4½ ft. high. It has been disturbed in the middle.’
