Full Description
Lynchets form three terraces on the south slope of Chart Knolle, east of Waddon Hill, and there are others on the south-east slope immediately south-west of Chart Knolle Farm. <1>
Three areas of grass-covered medieval type strip lynchets, visible on air photographs.
A. Centred ST 432013. Pronounced parallel lynchets on a southern slope, weakening towards the south east.
B. Centred ST 454012. Two series of pronounced parallel contour-following lynchets.
C. Centred ST 459015. Weak lynchets, short and rather scrappy. <2>
A series of medieval strip lynchets are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs to the south of Chartknolle, Stoke Abbott <3-4>. They were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP and form part of a wider system of medieval strip fields.
