‘Three archaeological features, all possibly associated, lay across the easement area at SY71509375:
A rectangular feature measuring 3 metres by 2 metres, positioned on the eastern edge of the easement area but not viewed in section, due to collapse. The topmost fill consisted of an orange/brown clay loam containing large and medium river gravel flints, giving the appearance of a solution hollow fill, although the shape suggests a deliberate cut. This feature was not excavated and no finds were recovered.
A sub-rectangular feature, only partly visible, the remainder being concealed by ploughsoil to the west. This feature measured 2m x 1.5m. The topmost fill was exactly the same as that described above and is far more likely to be a natural solution feature.
A linear feature, 5 metres in length, running NE-SW, and appearing to connect the two features described above, although any associations were unclear due to machine smearing. A 20cm segment of this feature was excavated by hand, revealing a shallow V cut ditch, 50cms in width and 25cms in depth, with sides sloping at about 45°. Four fills were observed in section, all of which silted from the north…’
