Summary

A bowl barrow, one of a scattered group along a north-south ridge. In 1970 this monument was reported as being around 57 feet in diameter with a mound about 1½ feet high, and much ploughed. The site of this barrow is visible as a cropmark ring ditch on aerial photographs with traces of an internal mound on lidar imagery. It was digitally recorded during the Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.

Full Description

'A' - Bowl barrow, diameter 25 paces, height 3 ft. <1>

A grass covered bowl barrow with no evidence of a ditch or excavation. Diameter 23.0 metres, height 1.2 metres. <3>

'A' - SY 74239745. Bowl barrow, much ploughed, 57 ft. diameter and 11/2ft. high on the west slope of a ridge. <4>

"SY 742975. Round barrow west of Druce Higher Barn". Scheduled. <6>

'A' - SY 74239744. Bowl barrow in arable, ploughed down. Diameter approximately 20.0 metres, height 0.4 metres. No visible ditch.
Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <7>

‘Four barrows (48-51) lie in the N. of the parish, scattered along a N.-S. ridge above 300 ft. O.D., among the much ploughed remains of ‘Celtic’ fields (Group (45)). An air photograph (Cam. Univ. Colln. AGT 18) suggests the possibility of two more barrows, one immediately S.S.E. of (50), the other 115 yds. to the N.N.E. (74139703). … (51) Bowl (74239745), 580 yds. N.N.E. of (50), on the W. side of the ridge, is much ploughed. Diam. 57 ft., ht. 1½ ft.’
