Listed Building record MDO21158 - The Royal Oak, Long Street, Cerne Abbas

Public House, on site of market. Early sixteenth century core, with eighteenth and nineteenth century alterations. Chalk, stone and flint rubble walls, with dressed stone quoins. Thatched roof with gable end to west, raised eaves and gable end to east.

‘The following monuments, unless otherwise described, are of the 17th century and of two storeys; the walls are of rubble and the roofs are covered with thatch or modern materials. Some of the buildings have exposed ceiling-beams and original fireplaces. … (10) Royal Oak Inn, 40 yards S. of the church, was built early in the 16th century. There are some original shaped brackets supporting the eaves on the N. side. Inside the building, one room has original moulded ceiling-beams and a stone fireplace with a four-centred head.’
