Full Description

SY 68849988. A ditchless and slightly elongated grass-covered mound, 10.5m diameter in the north east - south west direction and 8.5m diameter in the north west - south east direction with a height of 0.7m on the north east and 1.5m on the south west. The mound, which has a slight hollow in the centre, appears to be a bowl barrow. <1>

An oval mound (SY 68849990) 40ft long south west - north east, and 23ft wide, with a flat top 8ft by 6ft indented by a swallow hole is about 4 1/2ft high above the surface of the 'Celtic' field (see SY 69 NE 3) whose north west bank skirts it. The mound is unlike any usual barrow or `pillow-mound' and there is no sign of ploughing immediately beside it. <2>

SY 68849989: ploughing has reduced this feature to a mound, 16.0m by 10.6m, and 0.2m high, discernible only on its south and west sides. Revised at 1-2500 on MSD. <4>

The site of the barrow is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs and earthworks on lidar imagery; it was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project. <6-7>
