Full Description

Pair of Oil Fuel Tanks first shown on 1938 map <1>, but outline of site marked in 1927 <2>. Built on site of an earlier reservoir first shown on 1863 map. Two tanks shown on 1960 map <3>. Now removed. Levelled area became a sports pitch.

The site of a World War II fuel tank, now destroyed. <4-6>

The two modern fuel tanks described above in <1-3> are visible on aerial photographs of 1946 on the Sports Pitch in Castletown. They appear to have been painted with camouflage patterns during the Second World War. (4) <7> They are shown to have been removed on aerial imagery of 2009. (5) <8> This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
