Summary

Shoreline quarries, perhaps by 1841. There are indications of early quarrying all along the coastline as far as the Bill. The 19th century limestone quarries are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s.

Shoreline quarries, perhaps by 1841. (1) There are indications of early quarrying all along the coastline as far as the Bill.

The limestone quarries described above (in 1) are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s. The quarries are visible over an area measuring approximately 165 m by 30 m. (2) The site is still visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (3) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
