Full Description

Worked in early C20, shown on 1926-27 map (1) and published photographs. (2) Good example of a long channelled face, c. 3.3m high, with gullet and bank on seaward side. Two short lower channelled faces. Large block with iron pin beside path above quarry edge = anchor point or stay block for a crane? (3)

The limestone quarry is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s to the south east of The Old Lower Light. The quarry is visible over an area measuring approximately 120 m by 78 m. (4) The site is still visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (5) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
