Full Description
Disused quarry, partly filled and overgrown. This was the South Western Stone Co.'s Perryfield H Quarry (immediately across the road from their office Perryfield House). There was no quarry here in 1926 (1) but it had been opened by 1933 when SW Stone Co. published photographs. (2)
The early- to mid-20th century Limestone quarry, described above in (1-2), is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s. The quarrying is visible over an area measuring approximately 120 m by 100 m. (3) The quarry is still visible as an earthwork, partly covered in vegetation, on the most recent aerial imagery available to the project. (4) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
