Summary

Earthworks of a medieval field system with strip lynchets surviving from 0.5 metres to 2 metres in height. In the west of the area they run in a northwest to southeast direction, and elsewhere parallel to the present field boundaries in a northeast to southwest direction. The system of strip lynchets is visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and was recorded during the Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.

Full Description

Centred SY 700998. A series of Medieval strip lynchets, now grass-covered, from 0.5m to 2.0m high. In the west of the area they run in a north-west to south-east direction, and elsewhere parallel to the present field boundaries in a north-east to south-west direction. <1>

On the south side of Rogers Bottom (SY 700999) are the fragmentary remains of at least ten flat strips, 25 yds to 40 yds wide, bounded by low banks 1 1/2 ft high. <2>

The strip lynchets in the two fields centred at SY 701998, remain as described above, in good condition. <3>

The system of strip lynchets is visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and was recorded during the Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project. <5>
