Full Description

An infant burial (one of two) was found beneath the floor of a Roman building excavated in 1938 at South Grove Cottage, Trinity Street, Dorchester. (1-4)
This infant burial was in the southwest corner of the excavated room. It was aligned roughly north-south with the head to the south and the legs slightly flexed. (1)(2)(4)
It is unclear from the record whether this burial was cut into the floor in a shallow grave (4), or was deposited before the floor was laid and, therefore, was sealed by the floor (1).
