Full Description
A brick-built drain, probably made from Broadmayne brick, was found during the construction of a garage to South Grove Cottage in the corner between Bowling Alley Walk and Trinity Street, Dorchester. It was aligned roughly E-W, close to the wall that runs along the north side of Bowling Alley Walk. It was about 0.9m (3ft) wide with a rounded top, but it is unclear whether it was arched or was circular in section. It was encountered about 0.9m (3ft) below the ground. This conduit probably is later than the 1848 Public Health Act and may be associated with other sitings of similar structures in Dorchester (1).
