Summary

An enclosed Middle Bronze Age was found during the 2005 excavation by Wessex Archaeology, in advance of development as part of Phase II of the Poundbury development. The settlement comprised two adjacent rectangular ditched enclosures set within the corner of a larger rectilinear land division. The entrance to this enclosured settlement was through a narrow gap in the middle of the south side, leading into the eastern enclosure. Access into the western enclosure was by means of an entrance in the northern end of the central dividing ditch. A small post-built structure [F205] was found in the northwest corner, together with a number of pits. These pits contained quantities of Middle Bronze Age pottery and carbonised grain. A further scatter of pits was found throughout the rest of the enclosure. A number of tree throws were also found in the interior, two of which produced Middle Bronze Age pottery.
