Monument record MDO18141 - Greyhound Yard, infant burial, grave 4146

An oval grave was found in the west end of the passage in the west wing of Building 5433 during the 1984 Greyhound Yard excavations. It is one of a group of five infant burials in this passage.

Found during the excavations carried out by Wessex Archaeology in 1984 prior to the redevelopment of the area of the former Greyhound Yard. (1) The results of the excavation were published together with the results of the adjacent Old Methodist Chapel excavations. (2) The numbers in square brackets below are context and feature numbers used in the published report (2).

An oval grave [4146] containing an infant inhumation was found in the west end of the passage [1994] in the west wing of Building 5433 during the 1984 Greyhound Yard excavations. It is one of a group of five infant burials in this passage and is likely to have been a foundation deposit in Building 5433.
