Summary

A limekiln recorded as ‘limekiln’ on the 1901 Ordnance Survey map. Samples have identified this kiln as burning Welsh culm – anthracite mixed with coal dust. It was visited in 1992-3 by Peter Stanier and found to be in bad condition with only 40-59% remaining. Ruined walls associated with the kiln are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947.

Full Description

A limekiln recorded as ‘limekiln’ on the 1901 Ordnance Survey map. Samples have identified this kiln as burning Welsh culm – anthracite mixed with coal dust. It was visited in 1992-3 by Peter Stanier and found to be in bad condition with only 40-59% remaining.

Ruined walls associated with the kiln are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947 (2), they were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
