Monument record MDO18060 - Maiden Castle Road medieval/post-medieval field boundaries

Two shallow ditches oriented N-S and E-W found during the Maiden Castle Road excavations. Neither was dated, but are probably medieval or later field boundary ditches.

Found during the excavations to the north of Maiden Castle Road undertaken by Wessex Archaeology in 1987 in advance of the Dorchester By-pass construction. The following description is abstracted from the final published report on the site (1).

Two shallow ditches at right angles, aligned N-S and E-W. Their small size and shape separates them from the larger and deeper Roman boundaries on the site. No datable finds were recovered. They are most likely medieval or post-medieval field boundary ditches.
