Summary

Earthwork remains of an Iron Age or Romano-British field system. The field system is visible as linear banked soilmarks and earthworks on aerial photographs and on Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.

Full Description

(Centred SY 660983) Field systems plotted from air photographs Jan-Mar 1949. <1>

An IA/RB field system under plough and pasture. In the area of 'A', SY 661973 and 'B'. SY 659982, well defined rectilinear fields formed by lynchets and field banks are visible. Elsewhere throughout the area delineated, vague, fragmentary lynchets remain. See air photographs CPE/UK/2475 3124-5 9-MAR-1948. <2>

The field system is visible as linear banked soilmarks and earthworks on aerial photographs and on Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project. Some of the features recorded might be asociated with the Romano-British settlement recorded under MDO1742. The field system extends further to the south and southwest into Godmanstone parish and is recorded separately under MDO48708. <5, 6>
