Summary

A probable Bronze Age bowl barrow is visible as a 13.5m in diameter sub-circular banked earthwork on aerial photographs and on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The suggestion of an outer ditch is visible on a 1974 RAF aerial photograph . The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.

Full Description

A, SY 67739808. B, SY 67739815. C, SY 67649812. D, SY 67689815. E, SY 67709804. A, B and E are three grass covered bowl barrows. Diameters range from 8.0 to 15.0m and heights from 0.2 to 0.4m. A, has a slight ditch on the east and E, has a ditch 1.0m wide, 0.1m deep. The centres of B, and E, are slightly mutilated exposing flints.

C and D are two probable bowl barrows wich have been completely gutted and now appear as slight depressions with only the perimeters of the original mounds remaining and a quantity of large flints are exposed in the interiors. Each would have had a diameter of 13.0m; C. 0.6m high, is completely destroyed on the west side, D, 0.4m high, only the east half remains. See air photo CPE/UK/2475/3123. (1)

All these barrows have been severely mutilated - probably by excavation. (2)

All ploughed out but currently visible as cropmarks. (4)
