Full Description

Strip Cultivation. <1>

Lynchets on a W slope 500 yds ESE of the church. The system consists of twenty strips across the contours about 220 yds long. <2>

A. SY 674981 A well defined system of Md strip lynchets immediately adjacent to and apparently superimposed upon an IA/RB type field system which is only vaguely visible as fragmentary lynchets.
See air photo CPE/UK/2475/3122. <3>

Bulldozed out; only the two northernmost lynchets remain of the Md system and nothing remains of the `Celtic' field system. <5>

Strip Lynchets <6>

A series of closely parallel banked lynchets are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are considered to be medieval strip lynchets. In places these overlie, and partly intermerge with, part of a later prehistoric field system. The features appear to extend for a further 150m south than the area currently identified. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project. <8-10>
