Monument record MDO1626 - Lynchets, Mapperton

Earthwork remains of a medieval field system with strip lynchets situated to the southeast and southwest of Mapperton House. Field investigations in 1955 found the earthworks surviving to to a height of 2 metres.

Lynchets form five groups of terraces in the S. of the parish.
A On a W. and S. slope S.E. of Mapperton House.
B On a S.W. slope 250 yards S. of 'A'.
C On a S. slope near the edge of the parish, 1/2 mile S.E. of church. <1>

A Long grass covered and contour following strip lynchets. Approximately parallel and under grass. Average 2.0m high.
B Two grass covered parallel strip lynchets up to 2.0m high.
C Pronounced and approximately parallel strip lynchets in two series. Partly grass and partly tree covered. All lynchets being of Md. Type. <2>
