Listed Building record MDO16151 - The Round House, Verwood Road, Woodlands

Please read our .

Summary

The building appears to be a large house of several phases, possibly including late 18th or early 19th century structures. It is built of brick and is of2 storeys, with full height bow windows added to the end walls of the main range. Located within a walled garden and only partially visible. Closer inspection is needed to determine if parts of the building might have formerly been used for textile production. Photographs from Dorchester museum suggest that the building may have comprised a series of workshop wings of different dates attached to a house.

Full Description

Round House is of late 18th century origin, two-storeys with brick walls and tiled roofs, with 19th century additions. The 18th century range (52 ft by f18 ft) is orientated north-south and has apsidal ends and appears to have been built for some, as yet unexplained, industrial purpose. The east wing was added early in the 19th century and the west wing in the mid-19th century. All the internal fittings are 19th century. Since 1954 it has been converted into a single house. <3>
