Summary

An extensive series of medieval strip lynchets are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery to the south of Beaminster. They run southwards towards Parnham House and cover an area of approximately 40 hectares in the vicinity of Edmund Coombe Coppice. The features were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

Full Description

Lynchets occur on an east and south slope outside Edmund Coombe Coppice 1/4 mile SW of Beaminster church. The south terraces average 10 yards in width. <1>

Fairly pronounced and approximately parallel Medieval strip lynchets, centred at ST 475008. They are in several series, grass covered and rather scrappy. <2>

Two other lynchets with rivers of 2-3 feet have been rated on the opposite side of the valley. <3>
