Full Description

A Bronze Age bowl barrow on Long Barrow Hill. The site is one of a group of monuments in the vicinity of the Long Bredy bank barrow (MDO1509) and is clearly visible on aerial photographs. <1-3>

A bowl barrow, one of a group of monumetns in the vicinity of the Long Bredy bank barrow (SY 59 SE 27). Listed by RCHME as Long Bredy 8 (g) and by Grinsell as Long Bredy 9, it was described by RCHME as a mound 32 feet indiameter and 2.5 feet high. Some disturbance in the middle was noted, although there appears to be no record of an excavation. <4> <5>

‘(8) BANK BARROW, LONG BARROW and BOWL BARROWS on Long Barrow Hill ¼ to ½ m. N. of the church (575 ft.-612 ft. above O.D.). … The remaining barrows are seven in number … (g), 50 yards N. of the end of the bank barrow, is 32 ft. in diam. and 2½ ft. high; the middle has been disturbed.’

Mound now reduced by ploughing and only appears as a slight swelling 0.1m high of darker soil spread to 15.0m diameter. Newly ploughed and planted in grass when visited. 1/6/E
