Summary

The church was built in the early fifteenth century, with additions in the sixteenth century, but was subjected to very drastic restoration in the later nineteenth century. The architect for the restoration was G Crickmay. The west tower was added in 1897, by architect Charles Ponting. The building has walls of stone rubble with ashlar dressings, and a tiled roof.

Full Description

Parish Church of St Michael. Nave and West tower are of the first half of the C15th; North porch C16th. Extensively rebuilt in 1882 by Crickmay, although the West tower of 1897 is by Ponting. (RCHME 1952; Newman and Pevsner 1972)

'(1) Parish Church of St. Michael stands on the W. side of the parish. The walls are of local rubble and ashlar with dressings of the same material ; the roofs are tiled. The Nave and West Tower were built in the first half of the 15th century. The North Porch was added eartly in the 16th century. The church has been drastically restored, the Chancel having been rebuilt, the nave largely refaced and the porch almost entirely rebuilt; the W. tower was rebult in 1897.' {1}
