No. 109 South Street (together with Nos. 107 and 109a South Street) form an example of a late 18th/early 19th century terrace of workers' housing of vernacular appearance and with irregular plans <1>. It is a red brick house with a slate roof, of two storeys and attic. It also has small bowed shop window on the ground floor.

Terrace. Late 18th or early 19th century fronts, but in the main, many years older. Red brick. Nos 115 & 117 (Manchester Place) stone. Old slate roofs. 2 storeys and attics. Some brick modillion eaves cornices. Attic dormers. No 109 has small bowed shop window. Some casements with lead glazing bars in rear. <5>
