Description

Southern Archaeological Services conducted a watching brief during groundworks for houses on land west of Hannah's Lane, Abbotsbury between July and September 1999. The archaeological monitoring demonstrated that the development site had been impacted by significant modern disturbance resulting in the raising of ground level. A medieval ploughsoil horizon yielding 12-13th century pottery was observed below the level of modern disturbance. This was interpreted as being associated with the a former monastic field system. No other significant archaeological remains were observed.
