Description

Bournemouth University undertook a desk-based assessment of the site of the western end of the garden of The Rectory, South Street, Bridport, on land proposed for housing development in 1996. The assessment summarised the evidence for the development of Bridport and proposed a revised plan of the possible area of the Saxon burh. The previous archaeological discoveries in Bridport were also listed. The archaeological potential for the site was assessed in relation to its proximity to St Mary’s Church and the Rectory and the possibility of Saxon and medieval remains highlighted. The site was considered to be of high archaeological potential. (1)
