Description
Exeter Archaeology carried out an evaluation of the site of a proposed development to the rear of 42 South Street, Bridport in 1999. Two 2m by 1m machine trenches were in the area of the proposed building. (1)
Trench 1 to the east revealed three features, two pits and one small pit or posthole. None of these features was completely exposed. All three contained 16th century finds and some residual medieval pottery. Some residual possible prehistoric pottery and grass-tempered fired clay. Trench 2 to the west revealed a single pit containing early 18th century material and residual 16th century finds. (1)
