Description
OASIS: The detailed gradiometer survey was undertaken using four SenSys FGM650/3 magnetic gradiometers spaced at 1 m intervals and mounted on a non-magnetic cart. Data were collected with an effective sensitivity of ±8 µT over ±1000 nT range at a rate of 100 Hz, producing intervals of 0.02 m along transects spaced 4 m apart.
Project Results: Linear, rectilinear, and curvilinear anomalies identified across the southern portion of the site are likely related to medieval and post-medieval ditch enclosures. The curvilinear features, however, may indicate further bee gardens, as highlighted in an HEDBA, identified in the wider landscape. However, some feature may be related to modern livery practice on site. A potential through way was identified towards the east of the site, on a north-south orientation. This may have provided access to the adjacent enclosures to the west. An area of increased magnetic response was identified in the eastern portion of the site. This has been attributed to modern activity, most likely related to the livery yard. Numerous trends have been identified across the site. However, due to their weak nature, possibly attributed to the local geology, a confident interpretation cannot be made. Multiple areas of strong dipolar anomalies have been identified across the site. The majority of these are attributed to the stables and fencing. The remainder is likely modern scatter.
