Desk-based assessment suggests that the site was in use for agriculture throughout documented history and in the absence of further evidence from the surrounding landscape it would be sensible to infer that this was also the case throughout the early medieval and medieval period. However, evidence of a potential large named enclosure has been identified on later maps and may point to a hitherto undocumented use of the land that was located on the Parish boundary between the early medieval settlements of Chickerell and Wyke Regis.
