Description

Observations and recording during groundworks for a temporary access road and compound exposed no archaeological features associated with Romano-British activity recorded nearby or seen in earlier geophysical survey. The discovery of redeposited soil containing modern material and terram pieces, suggest the route of the temporary access track aligned with a previous access trackway that had been abandoned and possibly degraded through modern agricultural activity. Five Roman pottery sherds from the redeposited soil horizon, were recovered from the stripping activities within this area. Although the watching brief did not locate any archaeological features, this is likely to be due to the fact that the groundworks did not go deep enough to encounter such deposits.
