Description
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Wyatt Homes Lt to conduct an archaeological trial trench evaluation on a 7.9 hectare parcel of land to the east of Elm Close. The evaluation comprised of 23 trial trenches, each measuring 30m by 2m. They were all dug until their natural layer was reaches, this layer was typically a mid brown/yellow silty clay and the depths of these trenches range from 0.25m to 0.96m. The evaluation identified limited archaeology with the only datable feature as a posthole comprised of charcoal rich fill, within which very small bone fragments, small assembalges of burnt flint and a single flint flack were recovered. These finds were dated to prehistoric period. This was found in the western portion of Field 2 along with a ditch of approximately 95m and two shallow terminuses, showing the potential of post-medieval agricaltural activity.
