Description

Excavation by AC archaeology associated with installation of new pipelines within the Wytch Farm Oilfield of an area identified during a preceding evaluation. The evaluation identified two areas considered to have been used for saltworking during the middle ages; one having been identified and examined when the oilfield was developed in 1987. Excavation revealed a large medieval midden containing industrial waste from salt production and cut by medieval ditches and gullies. Post-medieval activity was made up of features associated with agriculture and landscape management.
