Description
An assessment of historic environment issues relating to a proposed development of land by JC and RH Palmer Ltd at the rear of the Assembly Rooms was undertaken. This was a largely desk-based assessment with one site visit. The application area measured c.0.14 ha and lay fully in the Bridport Conservation Area in Sub-Area 7: South-west quadrant and was also adjacent to two listed buildings. There were no designated heritage assets within the application area although there were 43 in the broader study area which measured 500m radius. The report concluded that the proposed development would not affect the significance of the asset of this part of the conservation area. It also concluded that the development would have no effect on the significance of the nearby listed buildings such as St Mary's Church. There were 23 non-designated assets within the study area which measured 150m in radius including those reflecting the industrial heritage of the area and two areas of allotment gardens all of which were concluded to be of low significance and to have low archaeological potential for further investigation.
