Description
The appraisal was commissioned by West Dorset Distirct Council to consider how the cost of the archaeological works related to a proposed large scale development might be minimised. The known history and the implications of previous archaeological work were considered. The options for the development were examined and considered in the light of the necessay archaeology. The report identified two options to mitigate the impact on the existing nationally important archaeological remains: the construction of a concrete raft as a base for the buildings or piled construction. Further archaeological investigation was felt to be necessary and mitigation measures for the construction were also proposed.
