Description
A trial trench evaluation was conducted on behalf of Savills on land being considered for residential development where previous work had identified possible archaeological interest. Eleven trenches measuring 1.8m by 30m were excavated, being 2% of the proposed development area. They were excavated by 360 degree tracked excavator with toothless bucket. Some archaeological features were revealed, probably field boundaries, water management systems and quarrying. These were of possible post-medieval date but more likely to be modern, based on the nature of the material infilling the features (brick/iron/barbed wire). It was concluded that the site was of low archaeological potential.
