Description
Observations and recording during a housing development adjacent to Shaftesbury Castle, the fourth and final stage of archaeological investigations on the site. No significant archaeological features or deposits were observed. A similar stratigraphic sequence was seen across the site, comprising topsoil and rubble/features associated with the 1930's house formerly on the site over a mid-brown friable silt with sandstone inclusions and finds from early medieval to modern, over natural weathered sandstone and greensand.
