Description

The archaeological field evaluation was carried out on behalf of West Dorset Health Design Practice prior to development of the site. Three machine excavated trenches were dug at the north west, north and south west of the site, measuring 5m by 1.6m to a depth of 0.8m. The trenches were cleaned by hand tools and the stratigraphy recorded. There were no archaeological features or deposits present in any of the trenches. In trench 2 at the north of the site three fragments of a late 19th century stoneware jar and three fragments of late 19th/early 20th century glazed red earthenware were recorded in the topsoil but not retained. In the topsoil of trench 3 one fragment of late 19th century glazed red earthenware was recorded and not retained.
