Description

Observations and recording during topsoil stripping for the remaining phase of quarrying operations. One stone-filled field drain was exposed and a small linear feature filled with charcoal-rich clay, which was interpreted as possibly being a peripheral part of the Iron Age/Romano-British settlement at Blacklands to the east of the quarry. A small quanityt of finds was recovered from the topsoil, consisting mostly of worked flint of broadly Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age date.
