Description
Excavation of trial trenches to evaluate a site proposed for residential housing, an area of approximately 15ha. The evaluation comprised the machine excavation of 10 trenches, each 1.6m wide and 25m long, totalling 280m. The trenches were located to investigate anomalies revealed during geophysical survey. Archaeological deposits or features were recorded in three of the trenches: a probable post-medieval hedgerow boundary in Trench 8, and features suggesting Late Bronze Age settlement in Trenches 1 and 5. The Bronze Age features comprised an arc of postholes, several pits and other post holes.
