Description
Ground penetrating radar suvey of part of a car park under tarmac at the time of survey. Anomalies of probable and possible archaeological interest, and anomalies of less certain origin, were identified. In particular the survey detected a group of sub-rectangular anomalies in the western part of the site which were thought likely to be of archaeological interest, and possibly to be building foundations, thought the possibility that these may be relatively modern or coincidental patterns formed in rubble spreads could not be ruled out on the basis of the GPR survey along. A linear anomaly, interpreted as a probable wall, was seen close to the western edge of the survey area, parallel to the modern boundary wall. Owing to its position and shallow depth, this anomaly was thought likely to be a recent feature, earlier evaluation work having shown that archaeological deposits were likely to be at depths greater than 1.68m. Survey results in the eastern part of the car park seemed consistent with rubble, in areas where the evaluation had indicated made ground.
