Description
ASI carried out an archaeological watching brief on the site of the construction of a water pipeline between Shatcombe and Toller Down. Intermittent observations took place during topsoil stripping and the trenching of the route of the pipeline. This was done using a single tracked excavator
A single archaeological feature was revealed in the bottom of the steep-sided dry valley of the River Hooke. This was a small, bell-shaped pit 300mm in diameter and 100mm deep, and its fill contained large proportions of charcoal and burnt flint. Although of decent size, these had not been worked. No other finds or features were found on the site
